Your child is the center of your world, and their health is the center of ours.

At HCA Florida West Hospital, we are committed to providing high-quality healthcare for children. Our pediatrics team works closely with families, primary physicians, and researchers. We also partner with Nemours Children's Health to offer outpatient specialty care, surgical services, emergency care and a pediatric intensive care unit.

Pediatric treatments and services

Achieving excellence as a children's health system is a team effort to ensure your child's treatment is among the safest and most compassionate in the region.

Children's medical services with Nemours Children's Health

Over the past 20 years, Nemours has specialized in pediatrics for northwest Florida and south Alabama children. From infancy to 18 years old, they care for kids of all ages with common and complex conditions. The Nemours collaboration with our hospital means that children and families in our region will have access to care that is delivered at the highest levels of quality and safety.

Pediatric emergency care

Our full-service pediatric ER cares for infants, children and adolescents in a comfortable, reassuring environment. We provide pediatric triage, kid-friendly rooms, pediatric-specific beds and specially trained emergency staff in our separate pediatric ER.

PICU care

With a family centered care focus, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a multidisciplinary unit that provides care for infants, children and adolescents who become critically ill or injured.

The many physicians, nurses and medical care professionals who work in the PICU have the knowledge, skill and judgment to quickly assess and treat children so that they can achieve the best outcome possible from critical illness or injury.

Equipped with advanced technology, our multidisciplinary team improves survival, speeds recovery, minimizes disability and relieves pain and suffering in a caring and respectful manner.

PICU admission

In addition to patients requiring a higher level of care, admissions to the PICU are regulated by the medical director of the PICU, or the staff critical care physician on duty. Patients may be admitted to the PICU with:

  • A critical care physician as the child's attending physician
  • Any staff pediatrician or surgeon, who will treat the patient in conjunction with a critical care physician

A critical care physician is available 24 hours a day for consultation on the care of critically ill children. If referral to the PICU is appropriate for your child, the critical care staff will make arrangements to transport your child to the PICU.
